  • Experience and track record: We first reviewed their credentials, years of experience, and reputation among previous and current patients.
  • Approach: Next, we assessed the variety and quality of their methods and modalities, communication style, and overall personality.
  • Accessibility: We also considered the accessibility of their operating hours, booking process, location, and whether they offered virtual/telephone sessions.
  • Space: If they offered a physical office, it should be safe, hygienic, and welcoming.
  • Fees: Lastly, we checked if their fees were transparent, reasonable, and if they were covered by insurance.
  • As someone whose former life revolved solely around their office, I know what it’s like to feel hopeless, depressed, and anxious about the future. It was a gruelling feeling that ate at me every day until my team recommended I seek outside help in the form of psychotherapists.

Ann Cloud from LifeStance was one of our first picks for this review because of her robust educational background, holding both a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and a Bachelor’s in Nutritional Science.

From what we’ve gathered, she’s able to put her deep knowledge of medicine and health to provide holistic mental guidance in her sessions. Furthermore, since she’s a licensed physician assistant, she can manage medications as well.

We were also pleased with Cloud’s diverse area of expertise, as we’ve had interviewees coming from depression, grief, anxiety, and different types of trauma. They shared how Cloud’s genuinely caring approach allowed them to open up about their stories comfortably.

Moreover, we discovered how Cloud would also provide follow-up check-ins with her clients just to make sure everything’s okay.

Lastly, we appreciate her session flexibility, offering both virtual and in-person services. We only wish that she could extend her operating hours through weekends to cater to more potential patients.

    • Offers both in-person
    • Accepts numerous insurance providers and plans

    Has helped me so much!

“I have been seeing Ann Cloud for a while now, and she has helped me so much! I’m 41, I’m a wife, a mom of 4, a nana of 6, I work, and I help care for my mom. I was and still am being pulled in a thousand different directions all the time.

It can be very draining and stressful at times, but since I’ve been seeing Ann, she’s given me an outlet to speak freely about myself and my feelings. She’s helped me stay centered so I stay in control and don’t let my emotions get the best of me.

I don’t know where I’d be right now without her. She’s the best!”

Kevon Owen caught our attention with his faith-based approach to counseling and psychotherapy. We discovered how Owen integrates the bible through his session to provide a more holistic change, whether it be regarding relationships, anxiety, trauma, depression, etc.

Our interviewees shared how they hit two birds with one stone by developing a strong relationship with God while overcoming their mental battles.

Furthermore, they added how Owen would balance spirituality with clinical methods, as he’s a Doctor of Clinical Counseling as well.

Another takeaway of ours from our interviews was that Owen wouldn’t hold his patients’ hands toward healing, but instead promotes accountability. He was also praised countlessly for his effortless creation of a safe and comforting environment for opening up about deep trauma.

We were also pleased to discover the variety of methods he uses for his patients, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mental health assessments, and ADHD testing.

The only downside is that his faith-based approach may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

    • Solid selection of services
    • Strong training experience and educational background

One of the best decisions I’ve made

“One of the best decisions I’ve made was contacting Kevon Owen Christian Counseling. Jack Smith is a fantastic counselor who truly cares about his clients.  He is the only person I have felt comfortable talking to about some tough situations.

I knew after my first visit with Jack that God had directed me to the right person and place.  Highly recommend!!”

    Extremely grateful

“I am extremely grateful for the impact counseling from the Owen Clinic has had on my life, and especially with Anna.

She is a wonderful counselor- she truly and intentionally listens, understands the struggles I share with her, and is such a Godly woman that I look up to.

Her guidance and wisdom are worth far more than what the price value is, and she goes above and beyond in her time with our sessions. Given the excellent care Anna has shown me as one of her clients, I would highly recommend anyone in need of counseling to this practice!”

Dr. Whelan is super friendly and easy to talk to. Resilient always responds quickly, explains things clearly, and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you reach out. It’s refreshing to deal with a place that’s professional but also genuinely kind.

We wanted to include Christa Harrison because of her deep understanding of trauma, having been in practice for over 16 years at the time of writing.

Her previous clients shared nothing but praise regarding her skillful handling of their past traumas and life transitions. For instance, they shared that Harrison would provide affirming words throughout her sessions while sprinkling in some of her therapy techniques.

One of her therapy techniques, “Reset”, tackles PTSD directly, and previous patients who’ve completed it shared how their relief never went away. It mostly incorporates Written Exposure Therapy (WET), which clients have described as helping them with accountability.

Previous clients also highlighted her bi-weekly program, Reflect, sharing that it’s the one that helped them regain control over their lives.

The common consensus among all her services, however, is that she always seems interested in getting to know her patients to adapt to each unique case. Our interviewees told us how they never felt like they were sick or that they needed “fixing”.

    • 16+ years of experience
    • Compassionate and attentive
    • Welcoming and safe environment

Christa is passionate about helping each person she comes into contact with, both in her personal and professional life. I have definitely learned so much from her!  Anytime anyone ever says they feel like seeing a therapist, I immediately think of her!”

    Shirley Williams, Google Review

    Excellent listener

“I worked with Christa for 6 months in 2020-2021. She is the best therapist I’ve worked with, and I only stopped because I moved states.

I have not found anyone like her since, and don’t think I ever will! Her compassion and empathy were so organic and safe for me. She has a sense of humor, but always maintains a serene and respectful atmosphere during sessions.

Christa is an excellent listener, and really helped me move through some of my pain & despair. If you are looking for an experienced, empathetic, highly competent, well-educated therapist in Oklahoma, look no further!”

Shawn Maguire was recommended to us by our respondents because of his unmatched expertise in relationship and marriage counselling. A handful of our interviewees were couples, and they credited Maguire with saving their relationships, thanks to his clinical experience.

We were also pleased to discover that Maguire caters to other mental concerns, including anxiety, trauma, depression, etc. However, we would’ve liked it if he offered his services to minors as well, as he only caters to patients aged 17 and above.

One of our main takeaways during our interviews was Maguire’s collaborative approach during his sessions. Clients shared how he takes the effort to get to know their background and sets unique goals with each of his patients based on their conversations.

    Cons

“I reluctantly agreed to attend marriage counseling with my wife as we were experiencing numerous marital challenges.  Shawn was excellent in helping allay my pessimism and disarm my machismo attitude to help me suspend my ego and focus on the sanctity of our marriage.

Through consistent work with Shawn, we have deepened our understanding of each other’s perspectives and fostered a greater sense of emotional intimacy.

Thanks to Shawn, we have successfully strengthened our bond, grown in our roles as partners, and made meaningful strides toward a more fulfilling marriage. Thank you, Shawn!!”

    Professional, kind, and caring

“Shawn helped me to understand and recognize how my family pathology had driven my life choices.  I had to learn and understand the power of the renewal of the mind, the power of forgiveness, and learning to love yourself first.

Instead of looking for love on the outside, learn to appreciate yourself and develop yourself.  Shawn assisted me in focusing, developing, and going into action with the truth about me. I had to face the honest truth about myself, because it began with the person you see in the mirror.

Who did I see…me!  Yes, I learned to forgive myself and learned to forgive others.  “If we embrace and understand the word of God, we will behoove the truest, the finest, and the most precious diamond we will ever own”.  S.Morrall

Shawn, thank you for helping me to see, understand, and create the truth for my life, no matter what obstacles come my way.  I have to understand it begins with me loving – who I am…”Nature Profound Miracle.”

Even if I have to cry sometimes, let it out and remember to live, laugh, and love with a heavy mixture of courage, discipline, perseverance, curiosity, humility, integrity, gratitude, compassion, faith, hope, and peace.

Shawn Maguire is a professional, kind, and caring Counselor with a big heart who will listen to you and help you take the steps into your greatness.  Don’t settle when you deserve a better life for you and your family; yes, it’s work, and it’s worth the time to become your best.

    God’s highest blessings to you.”
