Oklahoma’s 5 Leading Thyroid Specialists to Help You Thrive Again

thyroid-specialist-oklahoma-city
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Specialization and Experience  – We picked thyroid specialists who don’t just know the conditions in theory, but also have experience in treating them firsthand, so you’re ensured expert, well-informed care at every stage.

Treatment Style and Flexibility – Because no two patients respond the same way to treatment, we chose endocrinologists who prioritize thorough, personalized care. We favored those who create adjusted treatment plans regularly based on your needs, progress, and goals.

Flexibility and Accessibility – As great care shouldn’t stop at the clinic door, we chose doctors who were easy to reach, kept communication clear, and made appointments simple and stress-free for their patients.

Insurance and Cost Transparency – We highlighted doctors who welcomed cost questions, providing clear, upfront information about insurance coverage and out-of-pocket expenses.

We’ve all been there–Googling symptoms at 2 a.m., convincing ourselves that the mood swings, unexplained weight changes, and constant fatigue were likely just because of stress or a bad week at work

But these “small” warning signs have a way of adding up, and ignoring them doesn’t feel like an option anymore. And the hardest part is when you get checked, only to realize that finding a doctor who truly listens and ticks all of the boxes can be harder than expected.

Just like in any other city, looking for the right specialist in OKC can feel like a full-time job, so we’ve done the legwork for you. We’ve talked to the locals, reviewed credentials, and dug into patients’ experiences to narrow down the city’s best thyroid specialists.

How much do thyroid specialists in Oklahoma City charge?

Seeing an endocrinologist, or thyroid specialist, in OKC usually costs about $100–$150 or more if you don’t have insurance.

If you need extra tests, like blood work, imaging scans, or even biopsies, the price can climb quickly, anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars, depending on where you go and if your insurance covers it.

Dr. Mansoor Tanwir is a board-certified endocrinologist with SSM Health Medical Group. He completed his medical training at Aga Khan University Medical College in Pakistan, followed by his residency and fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

In addition to endocrinology, he also specializes in diabetes and metabolism, which makes him a solid pick if you need a doctor to manage thyroid disorders related to hormonal imbalances.

Our favorite thing about Dr. Tanwir? He’s always on top of things, from carefully monitoring labs or touching base along the way.

We could see how he genuinely cares about his patients’ health. You can go on and on about your symptoms, and he’ll ask every question under the sun to get the full picture.

The catch? He’s in high demand, and with half-day Fridays, getting an appointment can be tricky, so plan ahead. On the bright side, the clinic makes scheduling easy, so getting a spot is still doable.

Pros

  • Board-certified with strong credentials and training
  • Specializes in thyroid, diabetes, and metabolism
  • Thorough and attentive
  • Easy scheduling

Cons

  • Appointments can be tricky to get

Friendly, helpful and skilled

“Excellent first visit. Friendly, helpful and skilled front and exam room staff. Dr. Tanwir took the necessary time and asked a wide range of questions to diagnose an insulin resistance issue . And, he initiated a multi-step approach to find a solution.”

Very thorough, communicates well

“Dr. Tanwir is great. He is very thorough, communicates well and explains what his next step so you can anticipate it. His staff are friendly and efficient. I was able to see him on time and had no wait time. I highly recommend him.”

From medical school to fellowship, he completed his training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, so he’s a good pick if you prefer a doctor with deep roots in Oklahoma.

But our favorite thing about Dr. Wynn is his thoughtfulness. From double-checking old tests to ensuring you’ve got enough of your prescription until the next visit, his commitment to patient care really shows.

We also like that he takes the time to explain each step, so you feel informed and confident, which is especially reassuring for patients (like me!) who get test anxiety.

While the wait at the reception is usually short, booking an appointment can take some planning since Dr Wynn is quite popular and wraps up early on Fridays.

Amazing bedside compassionate manner.

No wait in waiting area despite being early. Dr. Tipu was very patient and spent the better part of two hours with me in the exam room and the ultrasound area. He’s so pleasant, love him. Plus, the center’s website is also easy to use, making it simple to request your medical records and pay bills.

Leading Choe Medical Group, Dr. James Choe is a board-certified endocrinologist trained at the University of Oklahoma.

He specializes in managing diabetes, thyroid, adrenal, parathyroid, pituitary, and testosterone abnormalities, making him a great option if you’re looking for a locally trained specialist.

What we love most about Dr. Choe and the team have an integrated care approach, combining both endocrinology and general health management. They go beyond cookie-cutter treatments, working closely with their patients to ensure personalized care tailored to their needs and goals.

That said, it’s worth noting that if you’re looking for highly specialized thyroid care for more complex cases, such as thyroid cancer management, a larger endocrinology center may still be a better option.

On the bright side, we still appreciate the comprehensive and convenient patient care as there are on-site diagnostics, wide insurance coverage from Coventry to United Healthcare, and a user-friendly patient portal.

Pros

  • Board-certified with strong credentials and training
  • Integrated care approach with personalized treatment plans
  • Convenient on-site diagnostics
  • Wide insurance coverage
  • User-friendly patient portal

Cons

  • Not ideal for highly specialized cases

“I love doctor choes medical group they are amazing when I found doctor Madison Austin I found pure gold the entire staff are very precious and very helpful and I recommend you giving them a shot I truly will always be with them they are a blessing to me I truly appreciate y’all thank you”
