We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Credentials: We prioritize safety in this side of town, so the driving school must be accredited by Service Oklahoma.

Experience: The driving instructors must be knowledgeable about road rules to ensure they can teach only the right things about road usage.

Range of Services: The more teaching programs they offer, the more students they can accommodate.

Vehicle Safety: For a safe driving experience, the school must have a fleet of well-maintained vehicles.

Teaching Approach: The instructor must know how to adjust their teaching strategy to cater to different types of students, which can be super helpful for nervous drivers.

Availability: Classroom and practical hours must have plenty of availability to accommodate different schedules, since driving school students will include teens and adults.

Rates: A driving school that charges within the average range in OKC makes them more accessible to any budget.

Driving is fun, but here’s the thing: not all drivers know how to drive. You’ll encounter cars that don’t know how to merge, use turn signals, or park straight.

There’s a reason why driver’s ed exists: it teaches you safety, parking, and road rules. The moment you’re behind the wheel, it’s a whole new world, especially once you drive on the expressway.

And that is why we’re sharing our trusted driving schools in Oklahoma City, whether it’s your first time learning, you need a refresher, or you’re completing your court-mandated program. Time to be smart on the road!

What is the cost of driving schools in Oklahoma City?

Driving schools in Oklahoma City generally cost $350 to $400 for driver’s ed. However, it depends on the inclusions.

Many of my friends went to Brown’s Driving School, which wasn’t surprising in any way because they’ve been around since 1996. They’ve got it all covered, from driver’s education to motorcycle training.

Let’s start with their over 30 instructors, who are all state-certified and vetted, ensuring you’ll be hopping in a car with a reliable adult. What truly stood out to us was their teaching strategy, which is adapted to every student.

As far as driving lessons go, they offer driver’s education, defensive driving, and motorcycle classes. They’re bang on for new drivers and traffic offenders, since they’re accepted by many municipal courts in Oklahoma.

In addition, we appreciate their private driving lessons for those who need to improve certain skills on the road, like parallel parking. However, some students felt that there should be weekend availability for these specific sessions.

On the flip side, their driver’s education classes have weekend spots, equipped with free re-testing for all students. Overall, they’re accessible for busy students, especially with their four offices in the metro.

Pros

  • Over 30 instructors
  • Has 4 locations in the metro
  • Offers motorcycle training
  • Provides private lessons
  • Free re-testing for students

Cons

  • No weekend spots for private lessons

The drivers were kind and professional

“Both of my teens attended the Browns Driving School within the last 6 months, and I have been so pleased with the experience. The drivers were kind, professional and made both my teens feel comfortable. The front office staff was helpful and answered any questions I had. I would absolutely recommend this driving school to any parent looking for a safe driving school they can count on.”

Extremely knowledgeable and friendly

“If your thinking of getting your motorcycle license.. DO IT ! My instructor Ryan was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. There was no question he could not answer and was very patient with all of us who were completely new to riding. Thanks again to everyone at Browns driving school and especially Ryan.”

Your father and grandfather probably went to Alert Driving School, founded in 1950, which is the oldest and largest driving school in Oklahoma. Add their years of experience with several offices in the metro, and they’re a solid choice.

Their years in the industry are a massive advantage, as they’re equipped with comprehensive services. Let’s start with their driver’s ed, which comes in various packages to cater to different needs, including a 30-minute to 1-hour practice drive.

Adult driving lessons are smooth here, since driver’s ed has a lot of inclusions, like the state driving skills test.

In addition, their defensive driving class has been extended to 6 hours, instead of 4, which is a more in-depth education for court-ordered improvement courses.

But make sure your wallet’s ready. At  $495 for a comprehensive package that includes the state driving test, they’re not the cheapest option in the area. But honestly, it makes sense for such a comprehensive driving school.

Pros

  • Oldest and largest driving school in Oklahoma
  • Has several offices in the metro
  • Comprehensive driving programs
  • Offers various driver’s ed packages

Cons

  • Rates aren’t cheap

Teaches very well

“Sandra Ramos the instructor was very friendly and she teaches really well. You learn a lot of new things that are very basic but they may not be really obvious for us to remember and also she has a very good way to get people involved on the class for every one to be confident.”

– Estrella Alvarez, Google Review

One of my best driving practice experiences

“Today was my last drive, this has been one of my best driving practice experience. Everyone is very nice and takes care of you very well. This place is really good for new drivers like me. I’m glad I got to come here and practice  with Ms. Sandra Ramos who was a very awesome teacher. Thank you for all your hard work!”

What we love about Road Ready Driving School is how they equip students with skills, knowledge, and confidence on the road. They prepare new drivers with all the right training, which is particularly helpful for nervous individuals.

Service-wise, they have a focused reach, specializing in new drivers with a standard driver’s ed that comes with 10 hours in the classroom and 6 hours behind the wheel. We do want to note that these are normal hours for driver’s ed.

A handy feature is their online driver’s education programs through their affiliates in OKC. Quite a practical option for busy adults.

Incredibly, they’re quite accessible, as they have instructors fluent in English and Spanish. But the best part is how patient and helpful they’ve been, which their students praised them for.

They’re not the cheapest in Oklahoma City, but not expensive either. We actually find their pricing fair, starting at $375, including catered lunch.

Pros

  • Ideal for nervous drivers
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Driver’s ed includes lunch
  • Offers online driver’s ed programs

Cons

  • Focused on new drivers

An amazing teacher

“Danna was an amazing teacher she took her time to explain everything to detail and made sure not to leave out anything. She really helped a lot by giving real life word scenarios to get us thinking on what to do and that was really helpful. Thank you !!!”

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 7 am – 7 pm
  • Saturday: 7 am – 4 pm
  • Sunday: 7 am – 5 pm

Website

In 2020, ProDrive Academy officially launched in Oklahoma City. Despite being considered still a baby in the driving school industry—compared to others on our list—we still found them reliable in teaching people how to behave on the road.

What makes them one of our trusted choices for driver’s ed in OKC is their PDA 27 technique, which comes with a 17-point instructional system and 10 techniques. It essentially makes the whole process easy to understand.

They offer a wide variety of services, from state road tests to comprehensive driver’s tests. We weren’t expecting to see a 50-hour behind-the-wheel driver’s ed class, but it’s a nice option.

Furthermore, they cater to everyone. Their offerings include assistance for those with out-of-state learner’s permit classes and driver’s ed for international students, as well as same-day license processing referrals.

They would’ve ticked all the boxes if we didn’t hear about their not-so-perfect customer service, mainly due to miscommunications. It’s not a usual occurrence, thankfully, and they compensate through their flexible schedules.

Pros

  • Wide variety of services
  • Follows a PDA 27 technique
  • Available for international and out-of-state students
  • Offers same-day license processing
  • Flexible scheduling system

Cons

  • Some communication mishaps

Patient and understanding during my driving lessons

For individuals who prefer a straightforward, no-nonsense driving lesson in Oklahoma City, Thomas Driving School is worth a look. This spot cares about one thing: teaching people how to drive safely.

Sure, that’s how it should be, but here, you’ll be paired with a driving instructor who makes the whole experience stress-free. They’re perfect for nervous students who have zero experience on the road, as their strategy is calm, supportive, and friendly.

There isn’t a ton of services offered, but it’s fine when you simply want to take driver’s ed. There’s the usual 10-hour classroom and 6-hour behind-the-wheel class.

We understand why there aren’t a lot of driving lessons, since they’re a small driving school in OKC. Still, they manage to stick to Saturday classes to accommodate busy individuals.

Best of all, their prices are affordable. Their driver’s ed program costs $320, which is one of the most affordable we’ve seen in the city.

Pros

  • No-nonsense approach
  • Classes are available on Saturday
  • Affordable pricing
  • Supportive and friendly approach

Cons

  • Limited programs
